Friday confessions

Happy Friday to all! I can’t believe this was only a four day week. To me, it felt much, much longer. TGIF. Anyway, since it’s been a busy week, I have 8 zillion things I could talk about, but I figured I’d just ramble about a few of them today, and save the rest for next week!

Friday Confessions
1) I started a cleanse last week. Now before you start thinking it’s a ‘liquid-only’ cleanse or ‘oh-my-gosh-I’m-starving cleanse’, let me just say that it’s so NOT that type of cleanse. This girl has to eat! The cleanse I started is actually a gluten-free, dairy-free, caffeine-free, corn-free, alcohol-free, get-those-toxins-out-of-your-body cleanse that I’m doing it with my Mom. To be honest, I am 6 days in and loving it! (Please note I did not love it at first…giving up coffee is NOT an easy task. Neither is giving up dairy). I committed to cleansing for 14 days so I’m sticking to it. Truthfully, I’m doing this in order to try and self-diagnose myself as gluten intolerant or not. One more week to go! I don’t even feel like I’m cleansing though. Look what I’ve been eating:

I’m planning on going into-depth about this in a future post, and I’ve got some great new recipes to share, too! I really enjoyed Kelly’s recap on her week of going Paleo, so that is the inspiration for my future post. Thanks Kelly : –)

2) I planned and booked my sisters bridal shower AND bachelorette party this week. I.am.psyched. The bridal shower location is perfect. We are keeping the location a secret from my sister for now, but here is the view:

Plus the bachelorette weekend is going to be exactly what she wanted.  We’re heading to Atlantic City, NJ at the beginning of May and staying at Revel Hotel. I’m already counting down. Can’t wait to celebrate my twin, best friend, and the bride-to-be.

3)  I am currently studying frantically for the GRE (aka the graduate school entrance exam) that I’m taking early next week. At this point, I’m just trying to have the mentality ‘I can only do my best’. Has anyone else taken this? If so, any tips? All I can say is, thank goodness for this book, and for blueberry smoothies. Those two things have helped me through!

4) I’m currently very jealous of Brandon’s climate versus mine. Check this out:

Australia:

Hmmm…where would you rather be? Miss you, B!

5) I have reached the point of obsessiveness about getting a dog. My Instagram feed is filled with these photos and it’s making it 100 times worse:

Can you guess what kind of dog I want?  : –)
Have a great weekend, friends!

  1. I love cavaliers! They are adorable and will probably fit into your lifestyle really well. I think you should pull the trigger :) I’ve been obsessing over a Pitbull rescue account on Instagram. I wish I could take them all. Nice work getting your sisters festivities planned so early! She’s going to love the beach in May, especially with your current conditions. Very nice of Brandon to send you teasers while you’re freezing your buns off, ha ha. Have a good weekend, girly. xo

  2. Oh don’t worry, Australia has had it’s fair share of mixed up weather so it’s not always been sunny! it’s sunny one day, raining the next!

Cavaliers are so cute – we’re actually looking for a second puppy for my sister at the moment and half the family is on “team Westie” because I suggested a Western Highland Terrier (like the “My Dog” dog) or a Chihuahua cross (like Chanel is) but Katrina desperately wants a pomeranian cross as that’s what gizmo was.

The only cleanses I’ve ever tried were for allergy purposes – I had to go on an elimination diet for a while which ended up making me sicker (as half of the “safe” foods I was allergic to) but from then on I just had to monitor my symptoms and food for a few months before we could figure out what my body could tolerate! Going gluten free for the first time was the hardest because of the coeliac – I had insane withdrawals (because my body was actually craving gluten, not knowing that’s what it was fighting against) and became a totally miserable person.

  3. I took the GRE (ew!) and the biggest piece of advice that I can give you is to not focus on memorizing a bunch of the vocabulary words. I learned hundreds of them and only one was on the exam. Instead, I would focus on learning/practicing the strategies in the books for taking the verbal portion. Good luck!! :)

    • Hannah thank you so much for your advice, it helped me immensely!! I was studying hundreds of words and i stopped after your comment! And guess what, basically none of them were on there! Thanks again girl!

  4. yeah for getting a dog and yeah for trip to NJ! :-) I am obsessed with Bosco, my Shih Tzu, so I can totally understand your excitement to get a dog!

It seems Maine looks a lot like NJ right now – we still have about a foot of snow in our backyard. Boo!! haha

  5. Glad to hear your cleanse is working well for you, Merry! I am looking forward to hearing the recap. As you know, Paleo wasn’t the perfect fit for me, but I do like many aspects of it. Still sorting things out, but I feel like it takes time.
And studying without coffee!!! If you can make it through this, you can do anything! haha ;)
Maine looks pretty snow covered. I know my family is freezing (and shovelling) their butts off in New Brunswick north of the border. Stay warm, and have a great weekend!

  6. I could totally go for Australia right now. but then again, when wouldn’t I?? lol
I’m sure you are going to do AMAZING on your GRE!!! no worries girl— you got this!! :)
I’ve done cleanses before and they are always bleeping hard, but SO worth it!

  7. I am so glad you’re doing the kind of cleanse you’re doing! I mean, juicing for 2 weeks is simply unreasonable. What you’re doing is so great!!! Can’t wait to hear more about it. I’m sure the food has been super tasty!! :) Gah, GOOD LUCK ON THE GRE!!! You’ve got this!! I haven’t taken it, but I’m sure your smarty pants self will rock it. GOOD LUCK! And yum to smoothies and BOO to that gorgeous weather that doesn’t exist here! Australia looks just absolutely picturesque and I am so envious of his location! :)
