U.S.A. Bound!

Hey friends! I simply can not wipe the smile off of my face today. Seriously, just writing that title made me giddy! Today I am home-bound for the next five weeks and I couldn’t be happier.
(Like my t-shirt? Brandon’s friends Lauren and Rob gave it to me when I moved! Maine-er for life!)

The last couple of weeks were pretty stressful due to having 4 finals, so I’m thrilled to be done. It is a great feeling to have my first semester of pre-requisites completed, and if I never see a library again, I’ll be happy girl. This was me in the library Monday-Friday last week:

LOL. Don’t I look thrilled? I am SO looking forward to not touching a textbook over the next month-and-a-half. Thankfully, I survived exam week with the help of exercise breaks, a study buddy (hi Kristina!), lots of coffee, nutritious food, and help from Brandon around the house and in the kitchen. These were the highlights of my study weeks:

A fruit&yogurt cookie for a Saturday studying treat

Keeping hydrated while studying: water, cappuccino, iced coffee. #necessities

A healthy-homemade dinner of pork with apples; recipe coming soon : –)

A pretty cappuccino
A much-needed running break!

Another highlight of the week was Brandon’s baking. Among other talents, he is seriously quite the pastry chef. Just look at this homemade angel food cake strawberry shortcake he made over the weekend:

Let me tell you, after having homemade angel food cake, I’m not sure I’ll be able to revert back to the boxed version ever again. It was light, fluffy, and perfect!

Anyway, after my last exam yesterday, I rewarded myself with two of my favorite things: a pedicure and a little shopping to prepare for my trip. Does it get any better than a pedicure and shopping? I think not. Followed by a dinner-out with B, it was the perfect celebration to the end of the semester.

And after a day of packing, I’m officially USA BOUND! See you from home, friends : –)

Do you like angel food cake?
I love it, despite being a huge chocolate lover!

What do you do to keep busy on long flights (besides sleeping?)
I have 36 hours ahead of me and I need some new ideas!

  1. I have a long flight ahead of me too so bring on the ideas. I love to read and am stock piling some trashy magazines. Plus, catching up on sleep and a glass of wine is always a must. Safe travels and enjoy your time state side. When I lived in Memphis, I would get so excited the day of my trips home, I can only imagine how ecstatic you are to have 5 weeks back home, especially after all of that studying and work. I need to go find an IL Love shirt right now…

  2. Yay!!! So excited for you girl!! And OMG if Stu baked I would die of happiness..that will prob never happen though! A girl can dream though!

  3. OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG I’m so happy for you!!!!!!!!!! Come to the states!!!!!!!!! YAY! I can’t wait to see all the wonderful things you get to do while you’re here! How exciting!!!
Congratulations on finishing the semester – that’s always the toughest part and you rocked it (especially with three different hydration systems!). You’re a rock star, and um, yum to that shortcake. I bet it was delightful! Omg, a 36 hour flight?
I have no suggestions, at all, but good luck!! WOOO! Safe travels lovely lady!

  4. YAY! Welcome back (soon) to the good old US of A! I absolutely love the color of nail polish you picked for your tootsies, too cute :) Also, if my boyfriend ever decided to do any sort of baking/pastry making in the kitchen I think I may keel over haha! That is AWESOME that your man is a chef! Have a safe flight, pretty lady!

  5. As she said “YAY”! Funny to read about your impending flight while I am surfing the web at 30,000 feet :-) I am trading around time with a book, my phone (games and another book) and in flight wifi (and drinking lots of water) Have a great trip, maybe catch you at the lake!

  6. woooooooohooo! so happy for you!! impressed w/ brandon’s culinary skills. and YES about pedicure/shopping. sounds pretty darn perfect. safe flight !!

  7. Yaaayyyy! There’s nothing better than going home :)

I always have a book (or two) on hand for flights. And if the movie’s decent, I’ll watch that. I’m sure they show quite a few on a flight as long as yours.

Have a safe trip and so much fun at home!

  8. Exciting! Have a safe trip home, lovely lady – and enjoy every second!

As for what to do on long flights – my secret is reading… because the light in the cabin is so poor it makes you super sleepy so you just fall asleep haha.

  9. Ah, so excited for you! I’m heading off in exactly one week for my own trip home to Canada, with a stop in the US too :) I can’t wait! Hopefully we both have a safe and happy trip home!

  10. HOORAY! Congrats on being done with exams — it’s amazing how brutal finals can be, and it sounds like you nailed them with aplomb. :) And, of course, a huge hooray for your triumphant return to the States! Have a wonderful time with your family and friends, and enjoy this hard-earned break!
