This day was my fairytale

Hello, hello! It has been quite some time since I’ve written. Between wedding planning and being between states all summer, I could barely keep up! However I’m back to the blog, and this time it’s as a married woman! Brandon and I said “I do” on August 15th in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, and it was truly the most perfect day. The location, the setting, the atmosphere, and the love surrounding us was truly magical. Our wedding day will forever be the most special day of my life.  While we don’t have our professional photos back from our amazing photographer yet, I wanted to share some memories that I captured, and that friends captured, from our special weekend. (Thanks to all for the photos!) This day was my fairytale <3

Set-up day! Friday, August 14th:
Our wedding was held at the Spruce Point Inn in Boothbay Harbor, and it was the perfect venue for us. If could give any advice to future brides out there, it’s this: ask your venue if they will let you set up the day before your event. Our wedding coordinator Carolyn allowed us to do this, which helped calm my nerves and alleviated SO MUCH stress for us both. We set up from 8:30-10:30 a.m., and then we didn’t have to think about it again. Plus, many hands made light work. Thanks to all of our family and friends who helped!

hello, 2015

Hello out there and Happy New Year! It’s been a while, that’s for sure. I know I’m a week late on the New Year thing, but it just wouldn’t feel right not saying it in my first post of 2015. Is anyone else freaking out that it’s 2015? I AM (but in a good way). 2015=wedding year!!!

Anyway, a lot has happened around here since the last time I’ve written!
1st semester=complete:
Finishing up my first semester of grad school was a big accomplishment and SUCH a feeling of relief for me. See ya never again, organic chemistry!

IMG_0940
Next semester will be even busier, but I’m looking forward to it, especially since I’ll be in mostly nutrition-based classes from this point forward.

Holidays:
Christmas came and went, and it was nothing short of amazing. I love that  some of the Christmas traditions my Mom and Dad have had with my sisters and me  since we were little have stuck, even as we’ve grown older. Baking the same desserts and appetizers each year, wrapping gifts together, blasting the Christmas music, gosh I love the holidays. We don’t open a single gift until all of us are together,  either, which means we’re usually opening until midnight, but it’s such a blast.
IMG_1009IMG_1012IMG_1048IMG_1051IMG_1057IMG_1072IMG_1078IMG_1086IMG_1088

I also love celebrating with two families, not just one. Love my French family!

IMG_1015IMG_1017IMG_1023

For our gift to each other, Brandon and I spent a night in Kennebunkport, Maine (the place of our engagement.) We stayed at David’s Boathouse Hotel, and now we would highly recommend it. Loved, loved, loved it! Check out this view from our room:

Plus, a personal parking spot wasn’t too shabby, either Winking smile
IMG_1144

New Year’s Eve was also amazing. We attended our second-annual  house party at our friend’s New Hampshire home. It really is the greatest party ever because we wear “comfortable” pants on the bottom (a.k.a. pajamas or sweatpants) and a dressy shirt on the top, since all you see in pictures is the top, anyway, and then everyone is comfortable the entire night. Isn’t that genius?! I went with polka dot pajama pants…thanks Aunt Jane!  : –)

IMG_1173IMG_1176

I made these garlic knots from Pinterest for the party and they were amazingly easy and amazingly tasty!

Wedding planning madness!
Since Christmas, wedding planning has been in full swing. With the upcoming semester coming quickly, I’ve been trying to cross as many things off of the list as possible.

I’ve been cooking quite a bit lately, too, and have some fun recipes to share in the next couple of weeks. It feels good to get back into a routine after the holidays, that’s for sure.

Talk to you soon, friends!

What was your favorite part of the holidays?

Anyone else getting married this year? For those of you already married, please tell me I’m not alone on this feeling!

my sister is beautiful

Hello, hello! Oh my goodness it feels like I haven’t written in forever (because I haven’t) so I have about one zillion things to catch you up on. First things first. Sadly, my Grandfather passed away on May 17th at the age of 85. We are so thankful that he lived a long life, but that does not make the fact that he is no longer with us any easier. The sorrow my Nana and family is feeling is heart-wrenching. Boppa meant the world to us. His passing happened 8 days before my sisters wedding, too, which was (and still is) extremely difficult to comprehend.  As a family, we’ve helped each other cope and grieve together. We knew Boppa would want my sister to have the best day of her life on her wedding day, so it was essential we made sure to stick together as a family for both Kimmie  and Nana’s sake. We love you, Bop.
IMG_8621IMG_7730

Secondly, in exciting news…my twin sister is married! With Boppa watching down on us, Kimmie and her longtime-love Jimmy tied the knot this past Sunday evening, May 25th, at Castle Hill Inn in beautiful Newport, Rhode Island. Everything turned out perfectly: the weather, the setting, the dresses, the food, the entertainment, it was magical. Plus, having our entire family together in one place was so special. My aunts, uncles, cousins and friends traveling from near and far made it even more special! My sister stated that it was ‘the best day of her life’, which is just what we all wanted to hear. I’m SO happy for these two…and I’m psyched to have a brother.

For now, here are some pictures of our weekend in Newport and of Kimmie  & Jimmy’s big day. Everyone loves wedding pictures, right? (Well, I know I do, and I’m guessing some of my fellow ladies out there do too!)

Have you ever been to Newport?
I love Newport more and more each time I visit!

What’s your favorite part about weddings?
I have too many favorites…the vows, watching the first dance, the flowers, and dancing are all a tie for me!

Kimmie’s Bachelorette: atlantic city fix

Hi my name is Meredith and I used to write a blog. Sheesh! I can’t believe I haven’t written in so long. I feel like I have so much to share. But life is full of phases right? Happy phases, sad phases, stressful phases, we’ve all experienced them at one time or another. I feel as though I just went through a five-month crazy-busy, can’t-slow-down phase that caused my life-work-school-blog balance to become obsolete, so now I’m trying to fix it. Quite possibly the best motivator ever to fix it is having my boyfriend home. That being said, I will be back to writing more frequently soon, soon, soon!

Speaking of phases, my family is obviously going through a wedding phase right now. My sister’s wedding is 10 days away…eeeeek!  As stressful as wedding plans and preparations can be, it has been so fun to celebrate Kimmie. Two weeks ago, nine of us jet-set to Atlantic City for her bachelorette-party weekend and it was memorable. I was so excited because the bridal party includes many of my closest friends and family members, but I was also a bit nervous because I just wanted her to love everything about the weekend. Well, after dancing, laughing, drinking, celebrating & gambling  I think it is safe to say she loved it, and safe to say I have had my Atlantic City fix for awhile!
IMG_8377IMG_8385

Since my sister’s bridal party members come from all over New England, it made the most sense for those of us in Northern New England to fly to Atlantic City. Obviously mimosas in Logan Airport were necessary at 7 a.m.

IMG_8348

After our zillion modes of transportation (car, flight, shuttle, car), we finally arrived at our hotel for the weekend, Revel Resort, and scrambled to decorate Kimmie’s hotel room. A lingerie clothesline, gift bags, and lots of pink bubbly helped to spruce up the room. She loved it!
IMG_8430
IMG_8355IMG_8356IMG_8358IMG_8392

Our first night there we all wore matching “team bride” tank-tops which was a blast, and we bar-hopped in the Borgata Hotel.
IMG_8363IMG_837310313059_10100229353685350_912224628072640532_nIMG_8386

We fought our hangovers the next day by way of outlet shopping, coffee consuming, gambling, board-walking, and more drinking (obviously).
IMG_8395IMG_8398IMG_8402IMG_8407IMG_8411

Saturday night was also memorable, beginning at American Cut Steakhouse and ending at HQ nightclub. We all wore black while Kimmie wore white (and her bride-to-be-sash), along with our matching cute/obnoxious flashing rings I insisted we wear! We celebrated a birthday too (love you, Sar!) What a blast we had. The pictures say it all.

What a fun girls weekend…love these ladies! I think it’s safe to say we have all had our Atlantic City fixes for awhile Winking smileWe love you, Kimmie! As fun as the weekend was, I certainly wasn’t loving life upon our return since I had 4 finals that next week, starting on Monday. Thankfully, I got through them, with lots of help from iced coffee!
IMG_8513
Now I am thrilled to say I am done with classes until my semester begins in September. Best.feeling.ever. Since studying is over-with, I can focus on my maid-of-honor speech, which I am starting to get a bit nervous about…help!!

Have a great rest of the week, friends : –)

Have you ever been the maid of honor or spoken at the wedding? Any tips you can share with me?

Ever been to Atlantic City? If so, where’s your favorite spot?
I loved our hotel, I’d stay there again in a heartbeat!
